Seasoned Fuji Star Yusuf Olatunji Akeju (Oba Akeju-Olufimo 1) Set to Drop New Hit Album

The Fuji music scene is set for another exciting moment as seasoned and highly talented Fuji musician, Yusuf Olatunji Akeju, popularly known as Oba Akeju-Olufimo 1, has announced plans to release a brand-new album in the coming weeks.

Akejuolufimo and his mentor King Dr. Saheed Osupa

Akeju-Olufimo 1 is not a new name to Fuji lovers, especially in Northern Nigeria, where he has built a solid reputation over the years as one of the most consistent and respected voices in the genre. His musical journey began as far back as 1996, when he officially started singing and honing his craft across various platforms and events.

His big break into the recording scene came in 2007/2008 with the release of his debut album titled “Won A To The.” The album enjoyed wide acceptance and laid a strong foundation for his career. He followed it up with other successful projects such as “Oorelope” and “Message,” albums that did not only resonate within Yorubaland but also travelled far beyond the South-West.

Interestingly, Yusuf Olatunji Akeju was born and brought up in Sokoto State, a background that greatly influenced his wide appeal and dominance in the Northern part of the country. Over the years, he has remained a force to be reckoned with in states such as Sokoto, Kebbi and Kaduna, where he commands a very strong and loyal fan base. His relevance in the region is further reflected in his regular appearances at major social gatherings, cultural festivals and high-profile events.

The Fuji star’s popularity is not limited to Nigeria alone. He boasts a well-structured fan club with executives not only at home but also in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the United States of America, a testament to his growing international recognition.

Despite his Northern upbringing, Yusuf Akeju-Olufimo 1 is an indigene of Ogbomoso, from the Ijeru-Oba clan, and he has never failed to proudly project his roots through his music and public engagements.

Speaking on his relationship with senior colleagues in the Fuji industry, Akeju-Olufimo expressed deep love and respect for all Fuji legends. However, he openly acknowledges King Saheed Osupa as his mentor and biggest influence, noting that Osupa’s style, discipline and lyrical depth have greatly shaped his musical direction.

Fans and industry watchers are now eagerly anticipating the release of his fourth studio album, which is widely tipped to be a blockbuster, just like his previous works. With his consistency, lyrical strength and strong fan support, expectations are high that the upcoming project will further cement his status as a leading Fuji act, especially in Northern Nigeria.

Music lovers can also access his works online, as his songs are available on Audiomack under the name akejuolufimo.

As the countdown begins, one thing is certain: Oba Akeju-Olufimo 1 is ready to remind the Fuji world why his name continues to ring loud across Nigeria and beyond. 🎶

Tariff Hike Dispute Escalates as FAAN Issues Quit Notice to NAGAFF

Tension is mounting in Nigeria’s cargo and freight forwarding sector following allegations that the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) issued an eviction notice to the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) in retaliation for its opposition to a proposed 200 per cent increase in airport operational charges.

The Chief Executive Officer of Widescope International Logistics Limited, Dr. Segun Musa, alleged that FAAN’s decision to enforce an immediate quit notice against NAGAFF is directly linked to the association’s resistance to the proposed tariff hike.

In a letter dated January 2026, FAAN directed NAGAFF to vacate its secretariat at the Hajj and Cargo Terminal of the Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA), Ikeja. The authority cited an earlier quit notice issued on April 10, 2025 (Ref: FAAN/MMA/RGM/HCT.A/13/Vol. 9), which it said the association failed to honour.

Reacting to the development, Dr. Musa described the sudden enforcement of the eviction notice as punitive. He argued that the move followed NAGAFF’s vocal rejection of FAAN’s plan to significantly increase airport charges, warning that a 200 per cent hike would further burden freight forwarders already operating under harsh economic conditions.

“FAAN’s decision to demolish the NAGAFF secretariat is clearly tied to the association’s refusal to accept an unreasonable 200 per cent increase in charges,” Musa said. “Operators are struggling, and policies like this could cripple the industry further.”

The situation has heightened anxiety among stakeholders in the cargo, logistics and freight forwarding sector, with many interpreting FAAN’s action as evidence of growing tension between regulators and operators at a time when businesses are calling for policy stability and cost relief.

Meanwhile, the Quadripartite Association—comprising the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), NAGAFF, the Association of Progressive Freight Forwarders of Nigeria (APFFLON) and the National Association of Freight Forwarders and Consolidators (NAFFAC)—has jointly rejected FAAN’s recent actions and opposed the proposed increase in cargo handling charges.

In a joint statement dated January 30, 2026, the four associations objected to FAAN’s plan to raise cargo handling charges from N7.00 per kilogram to N20.00 per kilogram, a measure scheduled to take effect on February 2, 2026.

While acknowledging the need for periodic tariff reviews to sustain aviation operations, the associations insisted that any adjustment must result from transparent consultations and mutual agreement with stakeholders. They also disclosed that a request for a meeting with FAAN’s Directorate of Cargo Services on January 30, 2026, was declined, with notification reportedly conveyed via telephone.

The statement, jointly signed by Temitope Akindele (Chairman, ANLCA), Udo Udoka (Chairman, NAGAFF), Quadri Olorunfunmi (Chairman, APFFLON) and Abu Abdul (Chairman, NAFFAC), urged members to remain calm while reaffirming their commitment to constructive engagement. The groups appealed to FAAN to suspend what they described as a “hurried decision” pending broader consultations.

As the standoff continues, industry observers say FAAN’s next steps and NAGAFF’s response will be critical in shaping the future of cargo operations at the Murtala Muhammed Airport. With FAAN insisting on immediate implementation and freight forwarders calling for dialogue, the coming weeks are expected to be decisive for the sector.

Doxa Health Foundation offers free Hepatitis B & C screening to 1,110 Abuja residents.

Doxa Health Foundation provided free Hepatitis screenings, vaccinations, and referrals to over 1,110 residents of Mogadishu Cantonment, Asokoro, Abuja, from 28 July, 2025 to 24 Jan. 2026.

The outreach, which targeted both civilians and military personnel, aimed to raise awareness and offer life saving intervention against hepatitis B and C.

Miss Glory Akawu, Founder and Executive Director of the Foundation, disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja.

According to Akawu, Hepatitis B remains a silent epidemic in Nigeria, often undetected until it causes irreversible liver damage.

“Hepatitis is a silent killer. It damages the liver and compromises its vital functions.

“By offering free testing, vaccinations, and referrals, we hope to empower people to detect and treat the infection early," she said.

The Founder said Hepatitis outreach at Mogadishu Cantonment, Asokoro, began on World Hepatitis Day, July 28, 2025, marking the start of a sustained public health intervention by Doxa Health Foundation.

"During the initial outreach, the Foundation provided free hepatitis screening, vaccination, and treatment referrals to over 1,110 residents, identifying 31 individuals who tested positive for hepatitis.

"Following the diagnosis, a number of those who tested positive were successfully linked to treatment and management.

"Their treatment journey has progressed remarkably well, with beneficiaries reporting improved health, renewed hope, and visible joy as they continue to respond positively to care.

"To ensure complete protection for eligible participants, the Foundation carried out a second vaccination exercise on Aug. 27, 2025, during which over 856 residents were attended to through continued vaccination and follow-up," she said.

Glory Akawu said that the intervention concluded with the third inoculation exercise on the 24 Jan 26, where 715 individuals received their final dose, completing the full Hepatitis B vaccination schedule.

"The outreach ended on a high note, as beneficiaries could not contain their excitement upon receiving free full protection against the Hepatitis B virus," she said

The Founder however, expressed gladness because most families and individuals understand the need to be vaccinated and mobilize others for the same course.

"I encountered huge challenges on this journey, but it's with great joy that this location vaccination has ended.

"Overall, Mogadishu Cantonment outreach demonstrates a comprehensive, phased approach moving from awareness and diagnosis to follow-up, treatment linkage, and complete vaccination, resulting in measurable and lasting impact within the community," she said.

Agbakoba Calls for Emergency Overhaul of Nigeria’s Health Regulatory System Amid Medical Negligence Concerns

Senior Advocate of Nigeria and medical malpractice specialist, Dr. Olisa Agbakoba, has raised alarm over what he describes as a deepening medical negligence crisis in Nigeria, calling for an urgent and comprehensive overhaul of the country’s health regulatory framework.

In a strongly worded statement issued on Monday, Agbakoba said recurring incidents of preventable deaths in Nigerian hospitals point to systemic failures in regulation, oversight, and accountability within the health sector.

He spoke against the backdrop of the recent death of Nkanu Nnamdi, one of the twin sons of acclaimed author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and her husband, Dr. Ivara Esege—an incident that has reignited public debate about patient safety in Nigeria.

Agbakoba, who said he has focused on medical malpractice litigation for over 20 years and has handled more than 50 such cases, described the incident as emblematic of wider institutional problems. According to him, the reported administration of Propofol—a powerful anaesthetic known to carry risks of cardio-respiratory failure if improperly dosed—underscores concerns about competence and adherence to clinical standards, even in hospitals regarded as reputable.

I am not shocked that such a simple procedure could end so tragically,” Agbakoba said, adding that while investigations are ongoing, there appears to be a strong possibility of overdose. He stressed, however, that all findings must be established through an independent and transparent inquiry.

He commended the Lagos State Government for pledging to investigate the incident and acknowledged the hospital involved, Euracare, for agreeing to cooperate.

Nevertheless, he warned that investigations into medical negligence in Nigeria are often compromised, alleging that medical records are sometimes altered to evade responsibility.

Drawing from personal experience, Agbakoba said he was once misdiagnosed in a manner that could have had serious consequences, while his brother narrowly survived surgery allegedly performed by a doctor who falsely presented himself as a qualified surgeon.

He cited several other cases his firm has encountered, including patients who died following delayed medical responses, negligent surgical procedures, and medication errors. He noted that his practice is currently handling 25 active medical negligence cases, with over 20 additional complaints under review.

“These are not isolated incidents,” he said.

“They are symptoms of a systemic collapse.”

Agbakoba traced the roots of the problem to what he described as the failure of Nigeria’s legal and regulatory health framework.

He recalled that in earlier decades, the healthcare system operated under a strong supervisory structure, with Chief MedicalOfficers and Health Inspectors responsible for oversight, compliance, and accountability. According to him, that structure has since been dismantled, leaving a regulatory vacuum.

He argued that the current framework under the National Health Act and corresponding state laws has led to excessive centralisation under the Federal Ministry of Health, weakening state-level oversight. As a result, he said, many health facilities now operate with “alarming impunity,” without routine inspections, mandatory reporting, or effective enforcement of standards.

Agbakoba also criticised what he described as a governance failure in which Ministers and Commissioners of Health combine policy-making with regulatory enforcement roles.

He insisted that these functions must be clearly separated to ensure accountability.“

The Chimamanda case has brought renewed attention to this crisis, but it represents only the visible tip of a much larger problem affecting countless Nigerian families,

” he said.

To address the situation, Agbakoba called for immediate reforms, including the establishment of an independent Health Regulatory Authority, the reinstatement of the Office of the Chief Medical Officer at federal and state levels, mandatory registration and inspection of health facilities, independent investigative mechanisms with powers to preserve medical records, and comprehensive legislative reform of Nigeria’s health laws.

He concluded by describing the state of medical care in Nigeria as a national emergency.

“We cannot continue to lose precious lives to preventable medical errors while our regulatory framework remains in shambles,” Agbakoba said.

“The time for decisive legislative and executive action is long overdue.”

Medical Negligence Crisis Sparks Renewed Calls for Overhaul of Nigeria’s Health Regulatory system

Concerns over medical negligence in Nigeria have intensified following the reported death of Nkanu Nnamdi, one of the twin sons of acclaimed author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and her husband, Dr. Ivara Esege, during a medical procedure in Lagos.

The incident has reignited national debate about patient safety, regulatory failure, and accountability within the country’s healthcare system.

A legal practitioner specialising in medical malpractice, with over 20 years’ experience and involvement in more than 50 negligence cases, described the incident as part of a disturbing and recurring pattern of preventable deaths in Nigerian hospitals.

According to the lawyer, the circumstances surrounding the case raise serious red flags, particularly the reported administration of propofol, a sedative known to carry significant risks if not carefully managed.

Propofol requires exceptional care due to its potential to cause cardio-respiratory failure,” the lawyer said. “

An overdose can be fatal, and there appears to be a strong possibility of overdose in this case. Sadly, I am not shocked that a procedure considered routine has ended so tragically, even in a reputed hospital.”

The Lagos State Government has announced an investigation into the incident, while the hospital involved, Euracare, has reportedly pledged its cooperation.

The lawyer welcomed these steps but cautioned that past experience shows investigations are often compromised.

“Such probes must be genuinely independent and transparent,” he said. “I have personally witnessed cases where medical records were altered to avoid culpability.”

Drawing from personal experience, the lawyer recounted being misdiagnosed for a serious ailment and narrowly avoiding tragedy when his brother underwent surgery performed by a doctor who falsely presented himself as a qualified surgeon. He also cited numerous other cases handled by his practice, including a woman who lost both kidneys following negligent surgery, a mother who died from haemorrhagic shock after delayed medical response during childbirth, a 12-year-old whose intestine allegedly went missing during treatment, and an elderly woman who died after being mistakenly administered a paralysing injection.

These are not isolated incidents,” he stressed. “They are symptoms of a systemic collapse. My firm currently has over 20 complaints under review and is actively handling 25 medical negligence cases.”

According to the lawyer, the root of the crisis lies in the collapse of Nigeria’s health regulatory framework.

He argued that earlier systems of oversight—when Chief Medical Officers and Health Inspectors routinely supervised hospitals and enforced standards—have been dismantled. He noted that the last person to hold the position of Chief Medical Officer of Nigeria was Dr. Samuel Layinka Manuwa.

Under the current National Health Act and state health laws, he said, regulatory authority has become overcentralised at the federal level, leaving states lax in enforcement. This, he argued, has allowed medical practitioners and facilities to operate with “alarming impunity,” with no routine inspections, reporting obligations, or effective sanctions.

He further criticised what he described as a governance failure, where Ministers and Commissioners of Health combine policy-making with regulatory enforcement. “

There must be a clear separation of roles,” he said. “Policy formulation should be distinct from enforcement. Independent regulators must be empowered to inspect, investigate, and hold practitioners accountable.”

The lawyer called for urgent, wide-ranging reforms, including the establishment of an independent Health Regulatory Authority, the reinstatement of the Office of Chief Medical Officer at federal and state levels, mandatory registration and inspection of all health facilities, and independent investigative mechanisms with powers to secure medical records.

He also urged comprehensive legislative reform to bring Nigeria’s health laws in line with modern standards of care and patient protection.

While the case involving the Adichie family has drawn widespread attention, the lawyer warned that it represents only “the visible tip of a much larger crisis.”

“We cannot continue to lose precious lives to preventable medical errors,” he said. “This is a national emergency that demands immediate legislative and executive action

Oriolowo Backs ADC Governorship Candidate Calls For Party Unity

Senator representing Osun West Senatorial District in the 9th National Assembly and a governorship aspirant of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Senator Adelere Oriolowo, has thrown his weight behind the party’s governorship candidate, Rtd. Hon. Najeem salaam describing his emergence as democratic and transparent.

Oriolowo said Salaam was not imposed on the party, stressing that his candidacy was the outcome of a collective decision by party leaders aimed at avoiding past mistakes where candidates were perceived to have been forced on members.

According to him, an election was conducted among 15 leaders of the party, after which Salam was selected as the ADC governorship candidate.

“We all agreed that whatever decision the party leaders reached, we would abide by it.

This was done to prevent a repeat of what happened in the past, where a candidate was seen as being imposed on the people,” Oriolowo said.

The former lawmaker noted that immediately after the selection, he met with his supporters, particularly those from his hometown of Iwo, who had expected the governorship ticket to come from the area, to explain the party’s position.

“I told them that this is what the party wants and that we must stand by the wish of the party. What matters most is the ideology of the ADC,” he added.

Oriolowo reaffirmed his full support for Salaam and called on the people of Osun State to turn out in large numbers to vote for the ADC candidate.

He described the ADC as the only political party capable of delivering the true dividends of democracy to the people of Osun State
