What many have described as unprecedented and historic, Honourable Kafilat Adetola Ogbara, Member of the Federal House of Representatives representing Kosofe Federal Constituency and Chairman, House Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development, on Sunday delivered what has now been widely regarded as a mega empowerment programme for her constituents across Ikosi-Isheri LCDA, Agboyi-Ketu LCDA, and Kosofe Local Government.
The empowerment programme, held at the CMD Field, Magodo, brought together beneficiaries, community leaders, and top government officials in a colourful, dignity-filled event that underscored people-centred governance at its best. Over 1,000 constituents benefited from the initiative, which featured the distribution of life-changing empowerment tools including electric motorcycles, vehicles, tricycles, a mini bus, sewing machines, generators, hair-dressing equipment, popcorn machines, and other vocational assets.
Leading the array of dignitaries was the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, who praised Hon. Ogbara for what he described as “a true dividend of democracy.” According to the governor, the scale, intention, and impact of the empowerment stood out as governance that directly improves lives.
“What we are seeing here today are things that will change lives tomorrow,” Sanwo-Olu said. “She could have chosen personal comfort, but instead she chose to lift people out of poverty. This is real inclusive governance.”
The event was attended by senior government officials from the federal, state, and local government levels, including legislators, commissioners, party leaders, and community stakeholders, all of whom witnessed the overwhelming joy and appreciation expressed by the people of Kosofe.
Throughout the venue, constituents sang praises, offered prayers, and openly expressed gratitude, their faces lit with hope and excitement. Many described the empowerment as something never before experienced in the constituency, applauding Hon. Ogbara for her accessibility, fairness, and deep understanding of grassroots needs.
Governor Sanwo-Olu further noted that the initiative aligns seamlessly with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, emphasising that inclusive governance and support for the vulnerable remain central to sustainable development.
In her remarks, Hon. Ogbara reaffirmed her unwavering commitment to ensuring that governance delivers tangible benefits to the people.
“I promised my constituents that representation would go beyond the walls of the National Assembly,” she said. “Real development must reach our streets, markets, schools, and homes.”
She revealed that within the last two and a half years, her office has implemented several empowerment and social intervention programmes across Kosofe Federal Constituency, including the disbursement of over ₦100 million in grants to women and youths, vocational and financial literacy training, support for small businesses, and drug-abuse awareness campaigns.
The lawmaker stressed that beneficiaries were carefully profiled to ensure fairness and impact, noting that the programme cuts across party lines. “This empowerment is about the people,” she added, assuring residents that the initiative would be sustained.
Several beneficiaries testified to the life-changing impact of the programme. Mrs. Tawa Gbadamosi, who received a Toyota Corolla, Atitebi Dauda, who received a tricycle, and Alilu Balogun, who was allocated a mini bus, all described the empowerment as timely, impactful, and transformative.
As the event drew to a close, chants of appreciation, prayers for continued strength, and loud commendations filled the air—clear evidence that Kosofe Federal Constituency has embraced Hon. Kafilat Ogbara not just as a representative, but as a leader delivering governance with heart, vision, and measurable impact.
