Lagos: In a grand ceremony marked by cultural splendor and community pride, His Royal Majesty Oba Noah Olayiwola Surakat was formally crowned today as the new Onidimu of Idimu Kingdom in Lagos State.
The historic installation was conducted under the auspices of the Lagos State Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs, and Rural Development, with the Honourable Commissioner, Hon. Bolaji Kayode Robert (Bibire), presiding over the event.
Speaking at the ceremony, Hon. Robert praised the peaceful and transparent selection process that led to Oba Surakat's emergence, describing it as a testament to the unity and maturity of the Idimu people. He also highlighted the vital role traditional rulers play in grassroots governance and cultural preservation.
“This installation reaffirms our commitment to respecting tradition while promoting unity and development across Lagos State,” he said.
The coronation drew dignitaries from across the state, including traditional rulers, political figures, community leaders, and a large crowd of well-wishers, all gathered to witness the historic occasion and celebrate the new monarch.
Oba Surakat, in his acceptance speech, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the people of Idimu for their trust and support. He pledged to lead with humility, wisdom, and integrity, and called on all stakeholders to work together in fostering peace, development, and cultural advancement in the community.
As traditional drums echoed and colorful displays lit up the streets of Idimu, residents voiced their optimism that the new monarch’s reign would herald an era of growth, unity, and cultural renaissance for the kingdom.
