The young lawmaker representing Ibadan Southwest state constituency 1,Hon Yusuf Oladeni Adebisi, have appeal to the youths in the city of Ibadan to embrace peace while going about their peaceful protest on the naira swap deadlines and its shortage. Speaking through his media aide, Temitope Eluyefa, he says conflict resolution is best practice in solving issues especially when a matter as turn to national embarrassment as this.
Adebisi described the decision of the apex bank as a national embarrassment especially when people do not have access to their funds and suffer for their hard earned money.
" Money redesign is a normal thing accross the globe but their are best practices to it which is time , communication with the public and access or availability of the new notes either in banks, POS or other legal way of withdrawal" He added.
He appeal to the youths to be rest assured that the Supreme court of Nigeria will not be bias in their rulings on the pending matters over the Naira swap and deadline which the Apex court had ruled on earlier that both new and old currency can be a legal tender pending the determination of the law court on the subject matter.
"As a student of law, the law of land is supreme and above any other person, therefore if a particular person or group of people are flouting the Supreme Court order, it shows such people do not respect the rule law and is very unfortunate". Adebisi said.
Meanwhile the Supreme Court on Wednesday 15th of February (today), adjourned hearing on the case involving the naira swap deadline fixed by the Central Bank of Nigeria but advised federal government and other parties before it on the need to align with its interim order to prevent breakdown of law and order.
Meanwhile, the panel led by Justice John Okoro, advised federal government to reduce tension in the country by making cash available.
In his words, “Are we not in this country, bank staff have been jumping fense. We are humans".
“We pray that there will be no break down of law and order,” panel said.
