The Many Battles of Arik Airline ;Company owes staffers 4 months’ salary
To many air passengers Arik Airline has
gradually been falling from standards and has become a carrier to abandon.
In recent times the airline which was regarded as the best in the country's aviation industry has taken a nosedive and has become a nightmare of passengers.
The airline which has a sound record of healthy airplanes had never for once recorded any mishap and boasts of quality services which has now been marred by different complaints by both its local and international passengers.
The airline is said to have recently been confronted with different logistic challenges that has made it uneasy for their passengers to get to their destinations without delay.
A passenger who confided in City Info revealed that on four different occasions he had been delayed more than eight hours while all the airline could offer was a flimsy excuse.
It is said to have become a natural occurrence to see passengers and officials of the airline engage in shouting brawls after many of the passengers would have been delayed for hours with the excuse that the plane is either experiencing faults or could not get fuel.
The airline is said not to only been faced with the challenges of providing adequate services to its passengers, it is claimed that the company is also fighting an internal crisis.
Sources revealed that the airline is still owing its staffers more than 3 months salary which explains why the staffers are mostly pained whenever a passenger insults them.
Many of the pilots and cabin crews were said to have been threatening to dump the airline to find a better company in the same industry.
The Michael Arumemi-Ikhide led organisation is allegedly suffering from a structural organisation challenges as the man who is near retirement has put some of his children in key areas in the company which he designed to make them take full control immediately he retires.
Some of the children who are Directors in the company were said to be the direct opposite of their father's shrewdness, discipline and fairness.
There were tales of confrontation between the children and some officials of the airline who were sacked for not been able to identify and give VIP treatment to the 'Chairman's son'.
The company which recently commenced its Lagos-Dubai flight still remains one of the hopes of air passengers in the country who wish it can adjust and improve on its services.

Echoes of Osun Elections: The Facts, Figures and Factors that worked against Omisore
10th August, 2014.
7:05 am: ' with the total number of votes of the APC which is 394,413
against that of the PDP's 292,687 I hereby declare Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola the winner
of the Osun State governorship elections'. This pronouncement by the Vice
Chancellor of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Professor Bamitale Omole not only
cleared the Governor of Osun State, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola for a second term,
it also plunged political pundits and analysts into
action to decipher the figures, facts and factors that denied Senator Iyiola
the chances of achieving his ambition of becoming the Governor of Osun State.
The Ekiti election
The 'easy' victory of Peter Ayodele Fayose over the incumbent Governor of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi must have been a litmus test for Governor Aregbesola to prepare himself well against any unforeseen jokers that the PDP must have planned to deploy to achieve the same feat in the election.
The plans to arrest and detain APC stalwarts some hours to the election in Osun State failed woefully as the party hierarchy had already designed a plot and evaded the security personnel who were to carry out the instruction. A fragment of the APC members (like Lai Mohammed) who were not really on ground for the execution of the election project were picked up and later released.
The plot which is considered one of the modus operandi of the PDP was first tested in Ekiti and became a magic wand which would still be used to achieve feats in future elections which was not to be in the case of Osun State .
THE PDP FALLOUT
Many observers who see politics as a game of numbers had already predicted a loss for Omisore at the polls judging from the crises in his party that led to the disengagement of the likes of Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Fatai Akinbade, Isiaka Adeleke and a lot of other party stalwarts from PDP.
Omisore was said to have counted so much on his connection at the Federal level that he became arrogant and didn't realise on time that the votes would come from the nooks and crannies of the State and not from the Federal .
Omisore who counted on the massive deployment of soldiers and police force that were at his beck and call couldn't muster enough strength to convince the electorates on how he was better than their incumbent Governor and lives to regret this.
It was also gathered from a reliable source that the Presidency in whom he invested all his hopes allegedly decided against a 'scientific method' which would have won him a landslide with the excuse of averting crisis in the state.
Another factor that came up from his party infraction is the selection of his running mate, Adejare Bello whom many considered to be a political liability.
The Ife/Modakeke, Ife/Ijesa factor
The political zoning where both the contestants come from the same Federal constituency of Ife/Ijesa is a big factor as the highest number of votes usually come from Ife, Osogbo and Ilesa.
It is opined that all the Ijesa towns and villages would vote for Aregbesola while the Ife communities would vote for Omisore without considering the odds against Omisore with the people of Modakeke.
The Modakeke people who are at all times at war with Ife did the usual when they massively voted against Omisore.
Aside from Omisore being an Ife prince, sources claimed that the role he played during the last Ife/Modakeke communal clashes sealed his fate with the Modakekes. He was alleged to be very instrumental in the recruitment of mercenaries for the Ife people which was seen as a breach of the peace pact signed with the Modakekes by the late Ooni of Ife, Oba Adesoji Aderemi.
Aregbesola factor
The Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola himself is not a small fry in the matter of politics. 'Ogbeni' has proved himself worth on many fronts and his laurels and achievements in politics if combined together could sink a ship.
The strategist is considered the winning formula of the APC and he was always used as the face of the party's campaign anywhere they are contesting.
Aregbesola who is an experienced, grassroot politician is highly revered and his words in many places is the law and that is why till today he is regarded as the 'man that wins Lagos' for the APC because of his influence and method that wins Alimoso(the biggest Local Government in Nigeria) for his party.
Aregbesola is also a religious figure who once boasted in an interview that he had never tasted alcohol nor slept with any woman other than his wife, a boast that remains a wish for the PDP candidate, Senator Iyiola Omisore.
The myth
There is a myth surrounding the person of Senator Iyiola Omisore in Osun State. The man must have won a Senatorial seat from prison and must have won for himself a larger image in the country's politics but there is a belief that the gods does not want him to rule the State.
Many people who rely on prophecy termed his inability to realise his ambition of almost 2 decades on the game the gods are playing on him.
Omisore made known his intention to contest in the Alliance for Democracy in 1999 but was tricked into sponsoring Chief Bisi Akande with a promise that he would be given the chance after Akande must have completed his first term in office, which was not to be.
Again fate played another fast one on him when he stepped down for Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola and now when he actually got his party's approval to contest fate dealt him another blow by giving Governor Aregbesola a clear winning of 101,456 votes.
Bola Ige factor
Just like Macbeth, a character in one of William Shakespeare's plays that murdered King Duncan and was haunted throughout his life, Omisore carried the death blame of the late Attorney-General, Chief Bola Ige on his neck.
Long before the elections there was an allegation by the son of the late politician, Muyiwa who is the Osun State Commissioner for Lands, Physical Planning and Urban development who claimed 'you killed my father' in an interview which took the Omisore some weeks to tackle.
The Bola Ige's death still remains one of the biggest factors that stand against the politician wherever he goes and he isn't the only person the blame hunts, it extended to some of his disciples like the Minister for Police Affairs, Jelili Adesiyan who wept like a baby when he was to be confirmed as Minister and the Senate asked him 'who killed Bola Ige?'

ACCESS BANK ORDERED TO RETURN N600 MILLION 'FRAUDULENTLY' DEDUCTED FROM CUSTOMER'S ACCOUNT
Access Bank Plc, has been ordered by the Enugu Court of Appeal to refund
a total sum of six hundred and thirty-six million, three hundred and
seventy-nine thousand, two hundred and five naira, fifty six kobo (N636,
379,205.56) to F.G. Onyenwe motor Nig. Ltd, for fraudulently perpetuating
excessive and unlawful charges on the customer’s account in the course of
transactions with the bank.
The appellate court, according gave the order while dismissing an appeal
brought before it by the bank challenging the judgment of a federal high court
Enugu which found the bank liable for making false debit entries into the
customer’s account.
F.G. Onyenwe motors Nig. Ltd who was a customer of Access bank and the
respondent in this appeal, was granted several loan facilities, which according
to the appellant (bank) the respondent failed to liquidate as at when due.
The appellant in a bid to recover its loan through assistance of a high
court in Enugu negotiated terms of settlement with the respondent and
consequently, consent judgment entered in favour of the appellant.
The respondent alleged that in the course of complying with the terms of
the judgment, for which he had already remitted over N100m, it was discovered that
the appellant perpetuated a lot of irregularities in its account and that it
was fraudulently misled into entering into terms of settlement which led to the
consent judgment.
Following this discovery, the respondent through his lawyer, Chief Tagbo
Ike filed a suit against the bank at the federal high court Enugu seeking among
other relief’s, a declaration that the defendant has no lawful basis or legal
right to charge excessive commissions and interests on the overdraft facilities
granted to the customer (plaintiff).
The plaintiff also asked the court to set aside the terms of settlement
and consent judgment entered with the bank, and to reverse all the excessive,
wrongful and unlawful debit entries made in the said account amounting to N275,
202,069.38. It prayed for perpetual injunction restraining the bank, its staff,
agents or privies from levying execution in respect of the said consent
judgment or using any court official to achieve same.
The plaintiff further sought the court order condemning the defendant to
pay 100% penalty on the excessive charges debited into his account which stood
at N361, 177,136.18.
After hearing from parties and evaluating evidence adduced as well as
submission made by their counsel, the federal high court entered judgment in
favour of the respondent and granted all the reliefs sought (except relief 6)
which was abandoned.
Dissatisfied with the judgment, the appellant filed an appeal at the
court of appeal Enugu on the grounds that the lower court lacked jurisdiction
to entertain and determine the matter and that the lower court failed to
properly evaluate the evidence adduced at the trial by rejecting the contents
of exhibit G1-G5 (which was the expert report prepared by the appellant bank
expert ) as documentary hearsay and lastly that the judgment was unreasonable,
unwarranted and against the weight of the evidence adduced before the trial
court.
But affirming the federal high court judgment after reviewing the appeal
and submissions by counsel to both parties, the 3-man appeal court unanimously
held that the lower court was right in declaring that the appellant perpetuated
excessive, wrongful charges on the respondent account and fraudulently misled
it into believing that it still owed the bank huge sum of money.
4 days to Osun election, Oyinlola declares for APC
With 4
days to the governorship election, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, a former
Governor of Osun State and former National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic
Party PDP, on Tuesday decamped and formally joined the All Progressives
Congress.
He formally joined the party at a rally held to drum support for the re-election of Governor Rauf Aregbesola.
Oyinlola joined the APC with 10, 000 followers from all the local government areas in Osun State.
Oyinlola who ruled the state between 2003 and 2010 was the National Secretary of the PDP until a court ruled that the congress that produced him as the candidate was irregular.
At the inception of the New PDP, a group of aggrieved PDP members, Oyinlola was one of the members who staged a walkout at the convention. Most members of the group later fused into the APC with people like Senator Bukola Saraki, Admiral Murtala Nyako and others leading the pack.
Incidentally, Oyinlola was sacked from office by an appellate court which ruled in favour of Rauf Aregbesola in November 2010.
The Osun rally which has all the APC Governors and leaders in attendance is a traditional campaign by the party to worm up into the memory of the electorates some days to the election. The PDP rally held also at the State's capital some days ago with the President, Goodluck Jonathan, his Deputy and all other political bigwigs in attendance.

Dollar rains as 'arrangee' supporters welcome GEJ in America
The
ugly trend of using deception as a tool in Nigerian politics played itself out
yesterday again in America with thousands of Nigerian supporters that are
residents in the US were contracted by a pro-Goodluck Jonathan group to show
solidarity for the Nigerian President.

The youths who were gathered from some parts of the United States close to Washington DC were paid 200 dollars for their mere 30 minutes welcome for the President.
The President's image maker were said to be satisfied by yesterday's success that they were also on the move to arrange a series of 'monitored' interview with the President before the end of the summit.
The Presidency and his crew were said to have conducted a research recently and pin-pointed the areas where the President was lacking, a step that resulted to the recruitment of a foreign PR company which has taken up the challenges of improving on the image of President Godluck Jonathan towards the actualisation of his second term ambition.
Bank Customer opens up on relationship with Bank’s MD that impregnates her, ‘I still have his nude pictures on my phone’

What’s the issue with you and Stanley Acho?
He is my boyfriend and I wonder how our affair took this
dimension beca
use he was someone I loved and trusted with all my life. He knows
everything about me and we had a fantastic relationship. I met him last year,
precisely in September when my account officer took me to his bank, Stretchout
Finance to collect a loan. I met him there and he appeared nice and helpful, I
collected a loan of 2.5 million naira which I paid back. It was on the day I
took the loan that he started calling me. I was even surprised how he got my
number not until I realised that it took it from the form I filled to apply for
loan in his bank.
Later I went to the bank again and collected a loan of
2.5million naira which I also paid back, the records are there and he and some
of his staffers could attest to it.
How did your affair start?
I told you how he copied my number from the form and he
started calling me, from there we became friends and started dating. He was
always in my house, everybody know us together because we used to go out
together a lot, even to the market and clinics where they’ve been calling me
‘Iyawo Ibo’ (Ibo’s wife) so I was surprised when he changed suddenly and was
denying everything.
What do you think was the reason for his sudden change?
It’s a long story. Like I said that we started dating, into
our relationship he told me how he wanted me to bear him a son, that his wife
bore him two daughters and that his custom demands him to have a male child.
Were you not in any relationship when you met him?
I wasn’t in any relationship, though I have a ten-year-old
girl who lives abroad. As I was saying he told me how happy he would be if I
could bear him a male child. This took us to different clinics and laboratories
where we went to have tests because he told me he needed a child and that we
shouldn’t be having unprotected sex. He was all over me and they gave us a drug
to cleanse our system in case of any infection, he even told me his wife was also taking from
the medication.
Did the wife know about your affair?
She didn’t. We continued our relationship and I got
pregnant, but when I became pregnant he started acting funny and referred to an
incident and pleaded with me to abort the pregnancy.
What incident was that?
Not really an incident, he just begged me to abort that he
had some issues he couldn’t disclose and I agreed. After the abortion we
continued our relationship and along the line he promised to help me with my
business, I import and sell clothes and shoes and he said he wanted to give me
money for my business but that he couldn’t give me cash because his wife, Elizabeth Stan-Acho is a Director in the bank
though she still works with First Bank, but that she is a signatory to the bank
account and that he couldn’t give me any money without her knowing, so he
deplored a means and told me to apply for a loan with a promise that he would
pay the interests on it till he has the money to pay back the loan. He would
even use my phone to send a text to his phone explaining about the money which
he said he wanted to show his wife as a proof that it was a loan.
How much was that?
The first loan was 3million naira which I collected in
January and in February he told me to collect the second loan which was
1.5million naira. He paid the interests on the loan and everything was going
fine till I got pregnant the second time. I had always warned him that we
should be having protected sex because of what happened the first time, but he
told me he now trusted me and did not heed my warning till I got pregnant again,
that was when the trouble started. When I told him I was pregnant again he
flared up and asked me to get rid of the pregnancy, when I reminded him that he
said he wanted a male child he said he realised his wife would kill him if he
gets to know and he was pleading that I should understand that his wife is a
Director in all his business and that it could become a problem but resisted
because my Doctor has warned me not to have an abortion again because of my age
and my body system. I pleaded with him to let me keep the baby, I even told him
that I can relocate abroad and raise the baby that I just didn’t want to risk
my life, but he didn’t listen and he started threatening me every day that he
would get rid of me the way he had been getting rid of others that tried to
block his way. From there any little thing I do he would beat me up, he was
always finding faults and beating me at any little excuse and he was still
sleeping with me. There was also a time that he didn’t pay all the required
interest and when his staff, Victoria called me I told her to talk to her boss,
he was so furious that he slapped me asking me why I had to tell Victoria to
ask him, he later paid the money and sent me a text to send to Victoria that I
mistakenly paid into the wrong account.
Why did you allow that?
He is charmful and he knows how to have his way. He could
beg me for two hours if he wanted to have sex with me.
How did you now get to the police station?
He was beating me constantly and there was a time that I
suspected he was up to something evil that I decided to run for my dear life. I
travelled to the United Kingdom and we agreed he would pick me at the airport
on my way back, but when I got in about 4:30am and I called him he said he
would come and he didn’t show up or called till 9am. Luckily I saw a neighbour who came to pick his wife
and I joined their car and came home with them. When I got home I noticed he
had entered the house and took everything he bought for me, the only things he
forgot was the teddy bear, card and dress he bought for me on valentine because
he didn’t know where I kept them. When he came I told him that the house was
burgled and he pretended as if he didn’t hear, later I confronted him and asked
why he came into my house to take things without telling me and he said he was
the one that bought the items he took from me.
Were you living together?
No, but he was always in my place. He would leave his home
at Ajah and got to my house in Shangisha by 6a.m. Even his Driver, Fiston was
like my official driver. There was a time his mechanic damaged my car, so he
assigned his driver to pick me to and from work, his travel takes me everywhere
whenever I was travelling. We had a serious affair that most times he even put
me on the phone to talk to his mother who lives in America, even his little
daughters I always spoke with them on phone when he was home and his wife
wasn’t there. I have evidence of all these on my phone as text messages and my
call-records. To cut the story short, I was coming from work one evening and
some area boys blocked my way and was talking to me roughly and saying ‘you
better terminate that pregnancy or we kick it out for you’, I was scared and
told him when I got home but he didn’t say anything and that was when I
realised I was in big trouble.
Were you the one that reported to the police?
Yes, I reported at the Zone 2 police headquarters after a
meeting with my family, they were the one that encouraged me to go to the
police and I did that when his staff and partner were harassing me to pay up
the loan. I called and begged him endlessly to fulfil his promise and call his
staff to order but he said I must get rid of the pregnancy first and that was
when I went to report at the Police station.
But he claimed you always beg him to sleep with you and that
you raped him many times?
How can that ever happen? Do you know him? Compare his
stature with mine, do I look like someone that can overpower and force him to
sex? Can you imagine someone leaving his home at Ajah coming to my house
everyday in Shangisha where I would be raping him? Is there sense in that? Rape
him for what? I was even surprised when I asked him at the police station if I
raped him and he said yes.
He claimed whenever he asked for the repayment of the loan
that you always pull his pants?
How logical was that? We had a relationship for close to
eight months. See the proofs are there and I need you to ask him and his wife
where he was on February 13th, it was a day to valentine and he was
with me, his driver took me to make my hair and fix my nails because he said he
wouldn’t want to raise suspicion by spending valentine with me, and on
valentine he was here at night, we even went for dinner at Fourpoint hotel and
he didn’t leave till 12pm, let his wife verify that, he bought me a card, a
teddy bear, a cup and cake. I really don’t want to talk, this is someone that I
have his nude pictures on my phone, I can show you all these as proofs, so he
shouldn’t be talking rubbish by saying I raped him. Rape who? Do I look like a
pauper? I’m old enough to take care of the child and would come back to sort
the child’s paternity.
What exactly do you want from him?
I want my safety, nothing should happen to me. I’ve
petitioned the Inspector General of Police and the Director of SSS over that.
Again I want to put straight the paternity of my child, I didn’t impregnate
myself and lastly he should be man enough to tell the truth about the loan he
tricked me to take.
Since all these happened have you tried to reach him to sort
things with him?
He wasn’t forthcoming, he even told me I shouldn’t threaten
him that his wife and his Pastors at Foursquare know about everything already
and he threatened my lawyer that he would arrest me with EFCC, I’m waiting for
that because I know this is a civil environment, I have also lodged complaint
with the public defender and they are looking into the matter.
