ARE WE LEADERS OR LOOTERS? POLITICIANS OR POLITHIEFIANS? BY: BARRISTER OLAWALE OJOGE-DANIEL

PRESIDENT TINUBU AND ALL THE GOVERNORS MUST SEND AN EXECUTIVE BILL TO MAKE CORRUPTION A CAPITAL OFFENCE — ANYTHING LESS IS SUPPORT FOR CORRUPTION AND BAD GOVERNANCE.

"Stealing from the people is stealing their future. Tolerating corruption is betraying the unborn." — Chief Olawale Ojoge-Daniel

Corruption remains the most devastating affliction eating deep into the very soul of Nigeria. It is the cankerworm that has denied the Nigerian people good governance, quality healthcare, functional education, critical infrastructure, national security, and ultimately, human dignity.

If President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the National Assembly, and all State Governors genuinely intend to lead Nigeria toward a rebirth of hope, prosperity, and justice, there is no nobler starting point than to urgently push for legislation that makes corruption: especially grand corruption, a capital offence.

To pretend otherwise is to inadvertently endorse the very evil that has crippled our nation for decades.

Nations that have achieved meaningful progress understood early that corruption is not just a moral failing , it is treason against the people.

China, for instance, treats high-level corruption with the severest punishment, often the death penalty, recognizing that corruption leads to societal decay and mass suffering.

Vietnam and North Korea have taken similar stances, enacting strict measures, including capital punishment, against corrupt public officials.

Even Singapore, though not prescribing capital punishment, dealt so ruthlessly with corruption that it became a global model of clean governance.

Nigeria, sadly, continues to caress corruption with weak laws and indulgent institutions. Trials drag for decades, convictions are rare, and even when achieved, the corrupt often negotiate plea bargains that allow them to retain much of their loot.

Meanwhile, ordinary citizens wallow in hunger, disease, joblessness, and insecurity.

The time for cosmetic reforms is over. We need a strong, unambiguous signal that corruption is an unforgivable betrayal of trust.

An Executive Bill that makes corruption, particularly involving public resources meant for health, education, security, or infrastructure: a capital offence would shake the conscience of the political class and send a clear message that Nigeria is finally serious about governance and justice.

Moreover, making corruption a capital offence would serve as a powerful deterrent. Fear of severe punishment has always been a formidable weapon against crime.

Those entrusted with public funds must realize that stealing from the people is akin to stealing lives, and it must attract the highest punishment under the law.

If President Tinubu, the National Assembly, and the Governors fail to act decisively, Nigerians will have every reason to conclude that the current leadership is merely paying lip service to the fight against corruption.

To support half-measures is to support corruption itself. And to support corruption is to sabotage the future of millions of unborn Nigerians.

"A nation that pampers corruption mortgages its destiny. Nigeria must choose: Justice or Decay." — Chief Olawale Ojoge-Daniel

Furthermore, all patriotic politicians must rise in unison to support this historic and moral imperative. Governors, in particular, must champion this move within their respective states, enacting similar laws to make grand corruption a capital offence at the sub-national level.

Let it be known anyone who refuses to support this move is not a politician, but a thief in disguise, a polithiefian parading as a patriot.

History beckons. Posterity will be harsh on those who had the power to act but chose silence or cowardice.

The moment is now. The decision is theirs.

Zamfara: The Time For State of Emergency Is Now* By Sani Aminu Aliyu

In Zamfara State, a sense of desperation hangs in the air like a thick fog. Bandits roam freely, kidnapping and killing with impunity,

while Governor Dauda Lawal sits at the center of the chaos, his administration embroiled in corruption and mismanagement. The state's economy lies in shambles, and citizens live in constant fear, wondering if their leader is more interested in exploiting the state's resources for personal gain than protecting its people. With lives lost and livelihoods destroyed, the people are crying out for drastic action - a state of emergency that would bring much-needed relief and restore order to their troubled state.

Zamfara State is currently navigating a tumultuous landscape of socio-political upheavals, marked by a near-total collapse of governance and economic activities that have hit rock bottom. Given the state's dire economic situation, security challenges, and the evident ineptitude of Governor Dauda Lawal, it's abundantly clear that the time for a state of emergency has arrived. Fundamentally, the governor has failed in his duties, succeeding only in polarizing the state and dismantling the institutions of democracy. The existence of two State Houses of Assembly is a direct result of the governor's attempt to expel lawmakers he perceives as unfriendly unless they pledge allegiance to him.

Lawal has effectively introduced a regime of violent extremism, quashing any counter-voices within the state. Through bribery and financial inducements, Governor Lawal has created an autocratic, totalitarian, and effectively tyrannical environment, bringing governance to a grinding halt. State institutions are now perceived as the governor's personal property, and he has exploited the state's resources, leveraging the ignorance and poverty of the people to fuel disunity and divisiveness among the various social groups. The breakdown of law and order is evident, with the apparatus of government being utilized for self-interest, territorial acquisition, and self-perpetuation.

The governor's reliance on unconventional strategies has transformed governance into a transactional game, where he outbids others to further his interests. This approach has corrupted the very essence of statehood, with sycophancy and oppression becoming the norm, and internal conflicts taking center stage. Rather than addressing the state's security and infrastructure challenges, Governor Dauda Lawal has opted for a regime of violence and unchecked killings. There are growing concerns that he is embroiled in malfeasance and military proxies, utilizing quasi-private military actors to consolidate power and facilitate illegal mining of solid minerals. This alleged complicity renders him incapable of resolving the state's insecurity issues. His denials appear to be mere attempts to deflect criticism, as the violence and exploitation persist.

Under Governor Dauda Lawal's leadership, Zamfara State's institutions have been crippled, unable to implement policies, enforce laws, or provide essential services to its citizens. The state is hemorrhaging, with Governor Lawal's lack of capacity fueling instability, corruption, and a failure to meet the people's needs, resulting in widespread poverty. His administration's deficiencies, compounded by a weak legislative arm, have hindered economic development and led to a lack of accountability and transparency.

The reality on the ground starkly contrasts with the governor's paid media narrative, revealing a dire situation marked by neglected public services, inadequate healthcare, education, and security, and a cycle of poverty. The state's wealth appears to be concentrated in the hands of a few, controlled by Governor Lawal, who seems unable to manage resources for the greater good, instead fostering lawlessness, bad governance, and citizen frustration due to a lack of transparency and accountability.

Governor Dauda Lawal's neglect of the education sector, driven by his relentless pursuit of personal wealth, has relegated Zamfara State to the bottom of the educational ladder in Africa. Schools lack access to quality education, and economic opportunities are scarce, trapping individuals in a cycle of poverty. The governor's administration lacks direction, and his inability to manage the government effectively has exacerbated socioeconomic inequalities, diverted public funds, and eroded public trust.

Zamfara State, already disadvantaged, faces heightened vulnerability and barriers. Instead of fulfilling his social contract, Governor Lawal has delivered poverty, fear, and death to the people. The government's weakness and compromise are evident, marked by a lack of responsibility and accountability. Governor Lawal's inability to address security challenges and utilize resources effectively underscores his failure as a leader, highlighting his lack of experience, knowledge, and expertise to govern the state effectively.

Governor Dauda Lawal's leadership is marked by a lack of accuracy and objectivity, rendering him incapable of effectively managing governance issues or implementing solutions. He is an opportunist unfit for the office of governor, lacking the capacity to appreciate the complexities of governance and mobilize effective responses. His inability to comprehend the principles of separation of power, as outlined in the 1999 Constitution, is evident in his disregard for the independence of the legislature and judiciary.

He has failed to adhere to constitutional guidelines, such as the harmonized standing orders of state Houses of Assembly, which govern processes like suspension and impeachment, budgetary processes, and confirmation of appointments. This has resulted in a situation where the rule of law and checks and balances are no longer upheld, effectively declaring a state of emergency in Zamfara State. His actions pose a significant threat to democracy, and his removal is necessary to prevent further damage.

The people of Zamfara State are gripped by fear and uncertainty, unable to live their lives or conduct legitimate businesses in peace. The state's inability to guarantee security has led to a breakdown in public order, with bandit attacks becoming a daily occurrence. Communities are subjected to relentless assaults, resulting in loss of life, destruction of property, and mass abductions. The Community Protection Guards, tasked with protecting their communities, are also bearing the brunt of these attacks, with several members losing their lives in brutal and inhuman assaults.

Recent incidents, such as the killing of Murtala Fachi and two others on the Anka-Gusau road, and the deaths of seven more in separate attacks on villages in Zurmi Local Government Area, are stark reminders of the state's security crisis. The governor, as the chief security officer, appears incapable of protecting citizens or respecting their fundamental human rights, leaving the people of Zamfara State to fend for themselves in a desperate bid for survival.

Zamfara is trapped in a cycle of violence and terror, with armed bandits wreaking havoc on communities, killing, abducting, and extorting citizens. Recent attacks in various local government areas, including Bungudu, Maradun, Talata-Mafara, and others, have left scores dead and many more abducted. The attacks are not limited to loss of life and property but also include extortion, with bandits demanding huge sums from communities in exchange for sparing their lives or not attacking them.

The state governor's response to these attacks has been inadequate, with many believing he is out of touch with the reality on the ground. As the people of Zamfara State continue to suffer, there is a growing sense of desperation and frustration, with many calling for urgent action to address the security crisis and restore peace to the state. The governor's inaction in the face of these atrocities has led to widespread criticism, with many wondering if he is more interested in holding onto power than protecting the lives and livelihoods of his people.

The 1999 Nigerian Constitution grants the President the authority to declare a state of emergency in any state where public order and safety are compromised, posing a threat to the nation's stability. The situation in Zamfara State exemplifies such a scenario, with widespread insecurity and a breakdown of law and order exacerbated by the governor's actions. It appears that governance decisions in the state are driven by subjective and parochial interests, rather than objective considerations. Allegations of the governor's involvement in illegal gold mining further underscore the need for intervention. Given the dire circumstances, declaring a state of emergency in Zamfara State may be a necessary step to restore order and ensure the well-being of its citizens.

As the sun sets over the vast savannah of Zamfara, the people huddle in fear, their homes and livelihoods threatened by the shadows of bandits and corruption. A young girl, Fatima, sits by the window, her eyes fixed on the distant horizon, dreaming of a future where she can walk to school without fear of abduction, where her parents can farm without worrying about bandit attacks, and where her community can live in peace. The fate of Fatima and countless others hangs in the balance, as the state teeters on the brink of collapse. Will the authorities listen to their pleas and take decisive action, or will the darkness of despair consume the land?

North West Group Passes Vote of No Confidence on Defence Minister Over Rising Insecurity*

The North West Development Vanguard (NWDV) has criticised the Minister of Defence, Mohammad Badaru Abubakar, over the rising insecurity in the country, particularly in Benue and Plateau states where dozens have been killed in multiple attacks.

The group is also calling for his immediate dismissal over what it describes as gross incompetence and political opportunism amid escalating security crises in Benue and Plateau states.

In a statement jointly signed by its President, Comrade Aminu Sani, and Secretary, Alhaji Bala Mohammed, the group condemned the minister’s handling of the deteriorating security situation in the country.

“The Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has failed in his primary responsibility to safeguard the lives and properties of Nigerians. His continued stay in office is a threat to national security and a betrayal of the trust reposed in him by the Nigerian people,” the statement reads.

The group highlighted recent attacks in Benue and Plateau states, where armed assailants have wreaked havoc on local communities.

The statement noted that in Benue State, at least 50 persons were killed in separate attacks on Kastina-Ala and Logo Local Government Areas, with reports indicating that over 300 armed men, suspected to be militia from outside Nigeria, were involved in the assaults. Similarly, in Plateau State, over 100 people were killed in multiple attacks across Mangu and Bokkos Local Government Areas.

“These attacks are not isolated incidents but part of a broader pattern of insecurity that the Minister of Defence has consistently failed to address. His lack of proactive measures and failure to coordinate an effective response have emboldened these criminal elements,” the statement added.

The group accused the minister of prioritizing personal political ambitions over national security concerns.

“Instead of focusing on his duties, the Minister is busy engaging in political activities aimed at positioning himself for the 2027 presidential elections. This is a clear indication that he is more interested in power than in the safety and well-being of Nigerians,” the group said.

The NWDV called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take immediate action by relieving Badaru of his duties.

“The President must act decisively to restore public confidence in the government’s ability to protect its citizens. Sacking the Minister of Defence is a necessary step towards demonstrating that incompetence and negligence will not be tolerated under his watch,” the statement added.

In addition to the call for dismissal, the NWDV demanded a comprehensive review of the country’s security architecture.

“There is an urgent need to reassess and restructure our security apparatus to ensure a more effective response to the challenges we face. This includes better intelligence gathering, increased funding for security agencies, and enhanced collaboration among all stakeholders.”

The group also appealed to civil society organizations, religious leaders, and the international community to join in advocating for improved security measures in Nigeria.

“The fight against insecurity is a collective responsibility. We must all work together to ensure that our communities are safe and that those responsible for protecting us are held accountable.”

The group warned that unless those overseeing national security are held accountable, the bloodshed will persist and public trust in government will continue to deteriorate.

Zamfara: Group Calls for Emergency Rule Over Gov's Role in Assembly Crisis, Insecurity, Others

A group known as the Guardians of Justice and Democratic Leadership has strongly condemned the escalating crisis in Zamfara State, calling for a state of emergency to be declared due to Governor Dauda Lawal's alleged disregard for the rule of law and inaction on insecurity.

The group cited the ongoing power tussle between the governor and the Zamfara State House of Assembly, which has resulted in two parallel leaderships and a breakdown in governance.

The group's executive director, Patriot Abel Adams, expressed deep concern over the state's worsening security situation, with 14 local government councils experiencing rampant insecurity, killings, and destruction of properties.

Adams accused Governor Lawal of being one of the worst-performing governors in the country, lacking the capacity to govern and engaging in frivolous spending while the people suffered.

According to Adams, the governor's actions have emboldened bandits and kidnappers, who have sacked whole communities and made life unbearable for the people of the state.

"Rather than strenuously work at eliminating the hydra-headed challenges of poverty, kidnapping, and banditry, the governor would rather engage in frivolous spending, make hypocritical sympathy visits to victims of the almost daily attacks and the families of the dead," Adams said.

The group also criticised Lawal for presenting the state's 2025 budget to an illegitimate assembly leadership, further exacerbating the crisis.

They pointed out that the governor's actions are a clear disregard for the rule of law and the principles of separation of powers, which are fundamental to democracy.

"The governor should know that the same election that brought him to office and grants legitimacy to him as the governor is the same election that guarantees constitutional powers to the members of the State House of Assembly to act and represent their constituencies," Adams said.

"No authority confers on him a more deserving priority order than that he is the governor of the State and must act within the constitutional allowance of his office.

"He is required to observe the principles of the rule of law, the principles of separation of powers and the observance of Checks and Balance, tenets without which democracy is no longer democracy but authoritarianism.

"The governor in failing to truly understand the tenets of democracy and uphold same, has also failed to take a cursory look at the House Standing Rules, but instead has gone on a miserable sightseeing, thinking that as a governor he has total tyrannical control and that the State Legislators are stooges and thus intends to turn them to effective rubber stamps.

"He failed woefully and has mis-constructed and misconstrued our democracy and the separation of powers, undermining it and insulting our collective sensibilities. He also underestimated the resilience of the 24 gallant patriots of democracy.

"Unfortunately, he is left with no option but must obey the new leadership of the House of Assembly or face the wrath of the people in an escalating crisis, which will make the State completely ungovernable for him and directly compel a declaration of the State of Emergency.

"We believe that the governor's actions are a recipe for chaos and anarchy, and it's only a matter of time before the situation becomes ungovernable. We call on the authorities to intervene and restore order in Zamfara State, ensuring the safety and well-being of its citizens."

The Guardians of Justice and Democratic Leadership also commended the 10 lawmakers who have been fighting for their rights and the rights of their constituents, despite facing intimidation and harassment from the governor's camp.

"These lawmakers have shown courage and conviction in standing up for what is right, and we urge them to continue to defend the interests of their constituents," Adams said.

The group's call for a state of emergency in Zamfara State is based on Section 305 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as Amended), which empowers the president to declare a state of emergency in a state where the structure of government has broken down.

"We believe that the situation in Zamfara State meets this criteria, and it's imperative that the authorities take swift action to restore order and stability," Adams said.

The group warned that if the situation is not addressed, it could lead to further escalation of violence, displacement of people, and humanitarian crisis.

They urged the authorities to take immediate action to address the security challenges and ensure that the government is accountable to the people.

The Guardians of Justice and Democratic Leadership urged the authorities to take immediate action to restore order and stability in Zamfara State, ensuring the safety and well-being of its citizens.

Civil Society Demands Probe Of Mele Kyari Over $1.5 Billion Refinery Scandal

A coalition of civil society organizations and concerned citizens, under the umbrella of The Situation Room on Transparency and Accountability, has called for a full-scale investigation into the financial dealings of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) during the tenure of its recently dismissed Group Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kyari.

Speaking at a press conference held in Abuja, the coalition described the dismissal of Kyari by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a “decisive and overdue” move. However, they emphasized that removing Kyari was merely the first step in addressing what they termed “monumental financial misappropriation” under his leadership.

The primary concern raised by the coalition centered around the $1.5 billion allocated for the rehabilitation of the Port Harcourt Refineries under the Buhari administration in 2021. According to the Situation Room, not only was this vast sum spent on just one refinery, but the facility remains non-functional, raising questions about the entire process.

“Where did the money go? Why was the plan to rehabilitate two refineries abandoned without explanation? Who are the contractors? Where is the audit report?” the coalition queried.

Despite reports of “mechanical completion,” the refinery has yet to deliver any refined products, leading the coalition to demand a forensic audit into the spending and publication of all relevant financial documents.

Another explosive allegation presented by the group involved the disappearance of over 89 million barrels of crude oil, allegedly transferred to non-state actors without accountability. They described this as “economic sabotage of the highest order,” and demanded to know who authorized such transfers and why no arrests have been made.

In addition, they raised alarm over a purported $400 million investment by Matrix Oil in the refinery rehabilitation project. According to the coalition, details of this partnership remain murky, with no clarity on ownership structure, repayment terms, or adherence to procurement laws.

The Situation Room is now demanding the immediate establishment of a Special Commission of Inquiry empowered to investigate NNPCL’s financial activities over the past five years.

The group outlined several specific demands, including: A forensic audit of all NNPCL transactions within the last five years, Public disclosure of beneficiaries of the allegedly diverted 89 million barrels of crude oil, A full report on the $1.5 billion refinery spending

Prosecution of Mele Kyari, board members, and other implicated officials, Oversight hearings by the National Assembly on NNPCL’s operations Support for President Tinubu’s Reforms

While making these demands, the coalition expressed support for President Tinubu’s broader reform agenda, describing his efforts as “heroic” but insisting that without accountability, reforms would be “merely cosmetic.”

They also urged the new GCEO of NNPCL, Engineer Bashir Bayo Ojulari, to operate with full transparency and reinstate the suspended “Naira-for-Crude” policy, which they believe could stabilize the exchange rate and support local industries if properly implemented.

Ambassador Michael Omoba, the convener of the coalition, concluded by warning that Nigerians will no longer tolerate impunity in the management of national resources.

“The era of impunity is over,” he declared. “The NNPCL cannot continue to operate like a private empire shielded from public scrutiny. We urge the EFCC, National Assembly, and the Presidency to act without delay. This must be the last time such flagrant abuse is allowed to happen.”

The coalition appealed to the media and citizens to remain vigilant and maintain pressure to ensure accountability, insisting that only a united front can save Nigeria from the clutches of entrenched corruption.

Among the myriad of challenges confronting Nigerian society, one issue that has garnered significant attention in recent times is the growing menace of drug abuse among the youths and women. This hydra-headed problem has assumed alarming proportions, claiming countless lives, destroying families, and undermining the very fabric of our society.

In a time when the menace of drug abuse is eroding the moral fabric of our society, especially among youths and vulnerable adults, the unwavering advocacy of Rep. Abass Adigun Agboworin against this scourge stands is commendable. His relentless fight against drug abuse is an effective step toward securing a brighter future for the younger generation.

Rep. Abass Adigun Agboworin, as the Chairman, House Committee on Narcotic Drugs has consistently demonstrated an unyielding commitment to safeguarding the lives and destinies of young people who are often lured into the destructive world of substance abuse through different means possible.

His public enlightenment campaigns, grassroots sensitization efforts, and support for rehabilitation programmes have significantly raised awareness of the dangers of drug addiction. By actively engaging stakeholders; traditional rulers, religious leaders, security agencies, and educational institutions, he has been at the forefront of ensuring that Oyo State and Nigeria’s teeming youth are protected from the grip of narcotics and other harmful substances.

His advocacy is not just about rhetoric; it is backed by action. Through collaboration with relevant agencies — the NDLEA and NOA, Agboworin has helped push for policies aimed at curbing drug peddling and addiction while also providing economic opportunities that prevent vulnerable individuals from falling into the trap of substance abuse. His vision aligns with the progressive governance of Engineer Seyi Makinde, whose administration prioritizes youth empowerment, security, and socio-economic transformation.

Beyond his fight against drug abuse, Rep. Abass Adigun Agboworin has proven himself as a leader with a clear vision for development, mirroring the dynamic governance style of Governor Seyi Makinde, His contributions to infrastructure growth, human capacity building, and innovative policies are reshaping the socio-political and economic landscape of Ibadan North East/South East Federal Constituency, Oyo state and Nigeria at large.

Leadership is about results, and Agboworin has demonstrated that he is not just a politician but a statesman with a passion for service. His impactful policies and grassroots connection prove that he deserves to be elevated to a higher political position. With his pragmatic approach to governance, strategic thinking, and people-oriented initiatives, he has the potential to further drive development at a broader level.

His ability to bridge the gap between government and the people, much like Governor Seyi Makinde, makes him a valuable asset in the political landscape of Oyo State and Nigeria at large.

Rep. Abass Adigun Agboworin’s leadership has set a new standard in representation, proving that true governance is about impact, vision, and service. His fight against drug abuse, commitment to infrastructure and human development, and his drive for innovation make him a leader that Oyo State cannot afford to lose.

As he continues to emulate the people’s governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, we pray that God grants him the strength and wisdom to do even more. It is imperative that the people of Ibadan North East/South East, Ibadan, Oyo State and beyond rally behind such a progressive, dynamic, and result driven leader, ensuring that his influence extends to higher political offices in due time where he can continue to champion the dividends of democracy for the greater good.

Oyo State needs more leaders like Agboworin: leaders who prioritize the welfare of the people above personal interests. His doggedness, innovation, and commitment to progress are why we must continue to support and elevate him for the future of a new innovative and a prosperous Ibadan North East/South East Federal Constituency, we have never had it so good in past years, as a matter of fact Rep. Stop Denigrating Yoruba Traditional Institutions– Ibadan Mogaji Warns Oluwo of Iwo

Another prominent Ibadan Mogaji, Alhaji Abass Oloko, has warned the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi, to refrain from denigrating Yoruba culture by calling himself an Emir.

The observation came amidst growing concerns about the preservation of traditional identities within the Yoruba community.

In a statement, Mogaji Oloko expressed his concerns regarding the implications of such titles, which he believes undermine the rich traditions of the Yoruba people.

He stated, “The title of Emir is not part of our cultural heritage and should not be adopted by any Yoruba monarch. It is essential that we preserve our identity and traditions.”

He observed that the Yoruba people have a rich and diverse heritage that should be celebrated rather than overshadowed by external influences.

“We must stand firm in our identity and not allow ourselves to be influenced by titles that do not reflect our true heritage.”

“When we embrace titles that do not resonate with our history, we risk diluting the essence of our culture. It is vital for our leaders to recognise the significance of their titles and the customs they represent,” he added.

Oloko however warned the monarch to stop disrupting the peaceful resolutions arrived at the committee on boundary dispute between Osun and Oyo State. He reminded the monarch that the boundary between Lagelu and Iwo ends at Odo Oba.

Civil Rights Group Urges Tinubu to Probe Defence Minister Over Alleged Abuse of Office

The Civil Rights and Anti-Corruption Network (CRACON) has called on President Bola Tinubu to set up a special investigative committee to probe Defence Minister Muhammed Abubakar Badaru over allegations of abuse of office and conflict of interest.

In a statement on Wednesday by CRACON’s coordinator, Folashade Olumiya, the group urged the president to demonstrate consistency in his administration’s fight against corruption by applying the same scrutiny to Badaru as was done in the case of former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Betta Edu.

“The president cannot afford to be selective in the war against corruption. If a committee was set up to investigate Betta Edu over allegations of financial misconduct, then the same must be done in the case of Defence Minister Muhammed Badaru,” the petition reads.

CRACON’s demand follows an earlier petition by the Young Guardians of Accountability (YGA), which accused Badaru of violating federal laws by maintaining active business interests while holding public office. The group alleged that the minister continues to run private companies, including a Bureau de Change, despite clear legal restrictions.

According to CRACON, the allegations against Badaru, if left unaddressed, could erode public trust in the government’s anti-corruption stance.

“This administration has repeatedly assured Nigerians that no one is above the law. However, failure to subject the defence minister to the same level of scrutiny as others accused of corruption will create the impression that the fight against corruption is selective,” the statement added.

“We cannot afford a situation where certain individuals are investigated and prosecuted while others are shielded from accountability.”

The anti-corruption watchdog insists that beyond the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) investigating Badaru, a presidential committee must be constituted to ensure transparency and accountability.

“The Defence Ministry plays a crucial role in national security, and the integrity of its leadership must be beyond reproach. We call on the president to take immediate action, as anything less will send the wrong message to Nigerians about his administration’s commitment to fighting corruption,” Olumiya added.

The group also raised concerns about potential national security risks posed by the minister’s alleged private business dealings.

“It is deeply troubling that the individual responsible for overseeing Nigeria’s defence and security is allegedly involved in financial dealings that could pose a conflict of interest. This is not just about corruption—it is about the safety and security of the nation. If the allegations are true, then Mr Badaru must step aside to allow a full and independent investigation,” the statement read.

CRACON further urged the president to reassure Nigerians that his government remains committed to upholding accountability across all sectors.

“We are calling on the president to act decisively and prove that his administration’s anti-corruption agenda is not just rhetoric. The credibility of this government is at stake, and Nigerians are watching closely.”

Pro-democracy group tells Tinubu to declare state of emergency in Zamfara over insecurity, political repression

The United Democratic Coalition (UDC) has called on President Bola Tinubu to immediately declare a state of emergency in Zamfara, citing worsening insecurity and a breakdown of democratic order in the state.

The demand was contained in a statement on Friday signed by Abdulrahman Danladi, president of the coalition.

Danladi described Zamfara as “a state under siege,” accusing the state government of abandoning its constitutional duty to protect lives and uphold democratic principles.

“The situation in Zamfara has gone from troubling to terrifying. Armed groups operate freely, citizens are at the mercy of bandits, and yet those elected to speak up are being silenced,” the statement read.

He was referring to the recent suspension of 10 lawmakers in the Zamfara State House of Assembly, whom he said were punished for raising concerns about insecurity and illegal mining in their constituencies.

“What we are witnessing is not just lawlessness — it is executive tyranny. These lawmakers were elected by the people and have a duty to speak out. Instead of listening to them, the state assembly, clearly acting on orders, has shut them down,” Danladi said.

He likened the political tension in Zamfara to the recent situation in Rivers state, where Governor Siminalayi Fubara governed with just four lawmakers after a split in the house of assembly — a scenario that prompted calls for federal intervention.

“If Rivers with four lawmakers sparked talks of emergency rule, how is Zamfara with 10 suspended lawmakers and spiralling violence not a national concern?” Danladi asked.

“The same standard must apply. Democracy is being murdered in Zamfara in broad daylight. If the federal government could consider intervening in Rivers, it must not turn a blind eye to the breakdown in Zamfara.”

“We are calling for a six-month state of emergency in Zamfara to allow security forces take control, restore peace, and return the state to constitutional order.”

The group also demanded the immediate reinstatement of the suspended lawmakers and an investigation into what it called “executive interference” in the legislature.

“This is not the time for political correctness. It is the time for leadership. The people of Zamfara are under siege — both by bandits and by those who should be protecting them,” the statement added.

Zamfara, one of Nigeria’s most troubled states, continues to face persistent attacks from armed groups, with thousands displaced and dozens killed in the past year alone.

Open Letter To Tinubu: Bash Ali Seeks FG’s Support In Hosting Guinness World Record Boxing Championship Fight

His Excellency,

Bola Tinubu, GCFR

President of Nigeria,

Presidential Villa, Abuja, Nigeria.

My Dear President Sir, Assalam Alaikum.

Happy birthday in great health, long life backed with the wisdom to take Nigerians to the Promise land. CORRUPTION has killed millions of Nigerians and has left most CONFUSED and FRUSTRATED. If someone had told me that after almost 2 years into your administration that my Guinness World Record Boxing Championship fight would still be stalled, despite my several meetings and discussions with you on the subject matter, I would have punched the person in the mouth.

All Guinness World Record Boxing Championship fights have held in the United States of America so mine would be the first outside and the most lucrative in the history of Pay Per View Television Revenue, sales of souvenirs, sponsorship, advertisement etc. I32 countries are coming to Nigeria to be part of Boxing History and the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) has written to the World Boxing Body to guarantee in Nigeria the safety of their members and that the Ministry of Youth & Sports, now the National Sports Commission (NSC) will follow up to ensure timely payment of their Approval fee which is domiciled at the Central Bank of Nigeria by the PRIVATE SECTOR.

For almost 19 years, to make this historic event a reality in Nigeria, the FGN has on 3 occasions, November 9, 2006, January 7, 2014 and May 21, 2019 inaugurated the Bash Ali Boxing Project Local Organizing Committee with the 3 arms of government, LEGISLATIVE (Senate and House of Representatives committee chairmen on sports), EXECUTIVE (office of the chief of staff to Mr. President) & JUDICIARY (office of the attorney general of the Federation) as members. The PRIVATE SECTOR will provide the funds while the FGN will provide an enabling environment for a successful show but CORRUPTION has stalled it.

My President Sir, It is imperative to inform you that the FGN is not putting up a KOBO but to provide an enabling environment and in the process earn the glory, honor and money from hosting this historic event.

My President Sir, after the FGN has collected $12M USD and extorted millions of Naira from me in the disguise of putting in place the promotional structures, the FGN has stalled the process of hosting this historic fight because I say NO to further extortion.

Sir, for almost 19 years the FGN has failed me. The FGN has extorted millions from me. The FGN has blackmailed me. The FGN has scammed me and despite several juicy offers to fight outside of Nigeria I still refused to give up on my country, Nigeria. I want to fight in my country, Nigeria so help me, please.

My President Sir, to get justice and right the wrongs of the FGN, I had to go to court and the matter is again coming up on April 7, 2025. I did not leave my comfort zone in Oakland, California, United States of America to fight the FGN in a court of law but to fight in a boxing ring to bring honor, glory and financial growth to FGN but I am in court because I have no choice.

Sir, the people that extorted millions of Naira from me on behalf of the FGN and those that were not successful are still in your cabinet and have sworn that this historic fight will not see the light of the day unless I co-operate with CORRUPTION.

PRAYERS:

1.  I am respectfully asking that the court case against the FGN be settled out of court.

2.  I am respectfully asking for the immediate re-inauguration of the Bash Ali Boxing Project Local Organizing Committee and that all the unnecessary obstacles caused by CORRUPTION by the FGN should be removed so this historic fight can hold in our great country, Nigeria.

Ma’Salam.

Respectfully submitted for your urgent attention and action.

Yours Truly,

Building a Better and a More Profitable Nigeria Through Sport.

Bash Ali. OON.

World Boxing Champion.

APC UK, Nigerians in Diaspora Urge Tinubu to Revoke Suspension of Fubara, Save Country's Image Now*

Some Nigerians in the United Kingdom have expressed deep concern over the recent proclamation of a state of emergency in Rivers State and the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and members of the State House of Assembly.

The Progressives Without Borders said the decision has severely damaged Nigeria's image, with the international community condemning it as an egregious overreach of executive authority.

A statement co-signed by its President John Andrew, who is also the Chairman of the APC in South-East London, noted that the move has also contravened the fundamental principles of federalism and democratic governance, casting aspersions on the legitimacy of the Tinubu administration.

"Nigeria's global reputation has suffered irreparable damage, with the country being perceived as one where the government disregards the rule of law and undermines democratic institutions," the statement said.

"The dubious interpretation of the Constitution that underpinned the suspension of Governor Fubara has only exacerbated these concerns. The timing of these developments could not be more inopportune, occurring against the backdrop of a highly contested presidential election.

"The legitimacy of the election outcome has been called into question by many international observers, and the government's actions have only served to fuel these concerns.

"As a result, the Tinubu administration's ratings have plummeted, and Nigeria's global reputation has been severely tarnished. The long-term implications of these developments are profoundly disturbing, portending a potentially irreversible erosion of trust in democratic institutions and the rule of law."

To address these concerns, the group urged President Tinubu to revoke the suspension and restore democratic governance in Rivers State.

The Progressives Without Borders believes this is the first step towards restoring confidence in the government's commitment to democratic values.

"The President must take concrete steps to address the concerns of the international community and ensure that the judiciary is independent and impartial," the statement added.

"The government must also address the underlying issues that led to the crisis in Rivers State, requiring a comprehensive approach that takes into account the political, economic, and social factors that contributed to the crisis.

"Additionally, the government must ensure that the rule of law is upheld and that the rights of citizens are protected. To restore Nigeria's global reputation, the government must take concrete steps to promote democratic values and the rule of law, requiring a concerted effort to address the concerns of the international community and ensure that the government is transparent and accountable.

"The government must also foster a culture of democracy and respect for the rule of law, requiring a long-term commitment to promoting democratic values and ensuring that the government is accountable to the people."

GGAN Lauds President Tinubu, Kyari's Reforms on Food Security *Says Decrease in Prices of Food Commodities Good Sign for a Better Nigeria

The Good Governance Advocates of Nigeria (GGAN) has commended President Bola Tinubu and Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, for their efforts in transforming Nigeria's agricultural sector.

In a statement signed by its national president, Comrade Gideon Unazi, the group hailed the administration's commitment to driving economic growth and positioning Nigeria as a key player in regional and global food markets.

According to Unazi, the country's gradual shift from subsistence farming to a robust agribusiness ecosystem is a significant step towards empowering farmers and fostering private sector-led growth.

He noted that the declaration of a state of emergency on agriculture, temporary suspension of tariffs on imported grains and essential food items and other reforms have yielded positive results.

Unazi added: "The collaboration with international development institutions such as the African Development Bank, the World Bank, and the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has also been instrumental in driving growth in the agricultural sector.

"The lifting of the ban on importation of food across land borders, the firming up of the Naira, and the reported pausing of bulk purchase of grains that UN and US agencies distribute to IDP camps have all contributed to the recent decline in food prices.

"The election of Kyari as the Vice Chairman of the Governing Council of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) is a testament to Nigeria's leadership in global agricultural transformation.

"This recognition is a clear indication that the country is on the right path towards achieving food security and sustainable agricultural development.

"The Ministry's efforts to distribute over 2.1 million bags of fertilizers to farmers and provide food aid to flood-affected communities have been particularly noteworthy. These initiatives have not only improved agricultural productivity but also provided relief to vulnerable populations."

Unazi said the recent decline in food prices is a significant achievement and proof of the Federal Government's efforts, with prices of some grains crashing by as much as 40% in the past month.

The statement stated: "The recent decline in food prices is a significant achievement, with prices of some grains crashing by as much as 40% in the past few weeks.

"The prices of beans, yam, rice, tomatoes, and garri have all declined, ranging from 10% to 70%. This trend is expected to continue, bringing relief to millions of Nigerians who have been struggling with high food prices.

"According to reports, the prices of major raw food items have declined significantly. Aljazeera reported that the prices of some grains crashed by as much as 40% in the past few weeks.

"BusinessDay highlighted a noticeable fall in the prices of beans, yam, rice, tomatoes, and garri, ranging from a decline of 23% for imported rice to 70% for tomatoes.

"The GGAN wishes to commend President Tinubu and Kyari for their leadership and vision in driving growth in the agricultural sector. We urge the administration to continue its efforts to drive economic growth and reduce poverty.

"We also call on all stakeholders to support the government's initiatives aimed at achieving food security and sustainable agricultural development. With the current trend of declining food prices, we are optimistic that Nigeria is on the path to becoming a food-secure nation."

ERA Applauds Tinubu Over Mele Kyari’s Sack, Calls for Probe Into Fake Refinery Projects*

The Energy Reforms Advocates (ERA) have praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his decision to remove Mele Kyari as the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited.

In a statement on Wednesday, Abdulkadri Isah, president of ERA, described the move as a courageous step toward reforming Nigeria’s oil sector and tackling entrenched corruption.

He said Kyari’s removal would allow a full investigation into alleged fraudulent refinery projects under former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

“The dismissal of Mele Kyari signals a new dawn in our nation’s commitment to eradicating corruption in the oil and gas sector. We commend President Tinubu for demonstrating the political will to confront these challenges head-on,” Isah said.

He urged the newly appointed leadership of the NNPC to prioritize an audit of past projects and ensure accountability in the sector.

“The probe into fake refinery projects must be swift and thorough. Nigerians deserve to know how billions of dollars were allocated to non-existent or uncompleted projects while the country continued to rely on fuel imports,” he stated.

ERA called on relevant anti-corruption agencies to support the process, warning that failure to expose past mismanagement would hinder any meaningful reform.

“This investigation should not end with a change in leadership. There must be consequences for those who mismanaged funds and deceived Nigerians. The government must set a precedent that corruption will no longer be tolerated,” Isah added.

The group also expressed optimism that under fresh leadership, the NNPC could regain public trust and reposition itself as a driver of economic growth.

“With competent leadership, the NNPC can finally fulfill its mandate. We expect reforms that will boost local refining capacity, attract investment, and ultimately reduce Nigeria’s dependence on imported petroleum products,” the statement read.

Kyari’s removal was part of a broader shake-up of NNPC’s board, with former Shell executive Bashir Bayo Ojulari appointed as the new GCEO and Ahmadu Musa Kida as non-executive chairman.

The restructuring aligns with the government’s vision of revitalising the oil sector and increasing Nigeria’s crude oil production and refining capacity.

Coalition of Nigerians Write African Union Over State of Emergency in Rivers*

A coalition of Nigerians has expressed dismay and disappointment over President Bola Tinubu's declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, describing it as a gross abuse of power and a blatant disregard for the Constitution, democratic principles, and the rule of law.

In a letter to the African Union Commission, the coalition urged the commission to take immediate action to address the situation and ensure that democratic principles are upheld.

*COALITION OF NIGERIANS*

No. 24 Seriki Street, Off Odunsi Street, Bariga Shomolu Lagos, Nigeria.

March 26, 2025

His Excellency, Alhaji Mahmoud Ali Youssouf,

The Chairperson, African Union Commission,

P. O. Box 3243, Roosevelt Street W21K19,

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Your Excellency,

UNCONSTITUTIONAL DECLARATION OF STATE OF EMERGENCY IN RIVERS STATE: A THREAT TO DEMOCRACY IN NIGERIA AND AFRICA

We are writing to express our utmost dismay, disappointment, and disillusionment over the recent declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State by President Bola Tinubu. This decision is not only a gross abuse of power but also a blatant disregard for the Constitution, democratic principles, and the rule of law.

With President Tinubu as the Chairman of ECOWAS, Nigeria is expected to be a shining example of democratic governance in Africa. Unfortunately, President Tinubu's actions have fallen woefully short of this expectation. His decision to suspend the democratically elected Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminilayi Fubara, and the State House of Assembly, is a clear violation of the Constitution and an affront to democratic principles.

Section 305 of the Constitution, which the President cited as the basis for his action, does not grant him the power to suspend or remove elected officials. The Constitution is clear on the grounds for removing a governor, which is explicitly stated in Section 188. The President's action is a blatant disregard for the Constitution and the democratic process.

This action is not only a threat to democracy in Nigeria but also sets a dangerous precedent for the suppression of democratic institutions and the rule of law in Africa. It is imperative that the African Union Commission takes immediate action to address this situation and ensure that democratic principles are upheld.

The implications of this action are far-reaching, and if left unchecked, could lead to a breakdown in law and order, undermine the legitimacy of democratic institutions, and damage Nigeria's reputation as a beacon of democracy in Africa. Furthermore, this action raises serious concerns about the President's commitment to democracy and the rule of law. It is worrisome that the President would resort to such draconian measures, rather than exploring democratic solutions to the challenges facing Rivers State.

We are also concerned about the potential consequences of this action on the stability of Nigeria and the African region. The suspension of democratic institutions and the imposition of emergency rule could lead to widespread unrest, violence, and instability. In addition, this action undermines the principles of federalism and the autonomy of states in Nigeria. The President's decision to suspend the Governor and the State House of Assembly is a clear infringement on the powers of the state government and a violation of the principle of separation of powers.

We urge you to prevail upon President Tinubu to immediately lift the State of Emergency in Rivers State and restore the democratically elected government. We request that the African Union Commission take concrete steps to ensure that Nigeria, as a member state, upholds the principles of democracy, human rights, and the rule of law. We also request that the African Union Commission take the following steps:

*Condemns the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State and the suspension of the democratically elected Governor and State House of Assembly.

*Calls on President Tinubu to immediately lift the State of Emergency and restore the democratically elected government.

*Sends a fact-finding mission to Rivers State to investigate the circumstances surrounding the declaration of a state of emergency and the suspension of democratic institutions.

*Takes concrete steps to ensure that Nigeria, as a member state, upholds the principles of democracy, human rights, and the rule of law.

We look forward to your prompt response and action.
